ERLKOENIG played a very interesting and unique blend of krautrock and symphonic rock, it would probably be fair to characterize them as a symphonic prog band with evident krautrock inclinations. ERLKOENIG's music is dominated by an organ played skillfully and inventively by lead composer Eckhardt Franke, much fiercer than the average symphonic prog band. Music is full of intensity, beauty, virtuosity and fairytale images. Their output is mostly instrumental, but when vocals are added, it has a very unique and interesting sound that serves the mysterious nature of the music, but also a very charming German pronounced pronunciation. Unfortunately, ERLKOENIG has released only one self-styled LP during his nearly 6-year career; it was published in January 1973. It was originally privately pressed in just 1,000 copies, mainly to be sold at concerts. In 2001, it was released on CD on the Garden of Delights label with 4 bonus songs. In 2004, it was reissued on vinyl on the Amber Soundroom label, limited to just 500 copies, with an alternate order of songs and one bonus song. It is very sad that ERLKOENIG is not more famous than them, for the average prog listener you should look for a lot of interesting music. If you like organ-driven music with a lot of dynamics and intensity, do yourself a favor, find a copy of ERLKOENIG's self-titled debut.ladislav&zivanovic..........
